After getting a good oven for kitchen, every beginner baker is very much curious about baking his/her own cake! Off Course, everybody have that curiousness, even I had that when I started my journey! And if you want to bake a cake, first and foremost step which you have to follow is Preheating.. and obviously it's not only for cakes, you have to preheat your over for all your baking recipes. Before learning how to preheat an oven, let me tell you what it is and why we have to do it.
What is preheating of an oven?
Preheating is heating up of an oven to a desired temperature beforehand. Same thing happens on stove top too, where we heat up the pan without adding anything on it before cooking. Also check out this post to know more about preheating.
Is it really important to preheat the oven before baking?
How to preheat an IFB microwave oven?
Preheating procedure generally varies from oven to oven and here I am gonna show you how I preheat my IFB microwave oven. Before that you need to know two simple things.
A microwave oven has three different modes like microwave, grill and convection as you can see here. Along with that we have the combinations like Micro + grill and Micro + convection. That means, microwave mode is combined with both grill and convection modes.
Preheating is done only for the convection mode. None of the other modes require preheating.
Always preheat your oven empty. You don't have to place the baking tray in while preheating.
Steps to preheat an IFB microwave oven
Switch on the oven and press the convection option once.
After pressing, you'll see something like this on the display. 110 C is the starting temperature. Conv on the bottom shows that it is convection mode.
Keep on pressing the same option till you reach your desired temperature. Stop at your desired temperature. I stopped at 160 C.
Now directly press the start option.
After pressing, you'll see something like this on display. PREH means preheating, you'll see it flickering on screen. And that means, your oven is getting preheated. It is already set for 30 minutes. But it won't actually take that much time. PREH will stop flickering once the oven reaches the desired temperature.
PREH stopped flickering at this point of time. Now the oven is preheated to 160 °C. You can also use an oven thermometer to check it.

Now place the cake tin inside.
Again press the convection option and choose the same temperature.
Now set the timer by pressing minutes and seconds option.
Finally press the start option to start baking.
