Roasted gram ladoos | Maa ladoo | Pottu kadalai ladoos | Porikadalai / pottu kadalai maavu urundai

This ladoo is generally made during karthigai, which is a tamilnadu hindu festival celebrated in the month of karthigai in tamil. Different maavu urundai (ladoo) is made during this festival but this one is something special, since it's so simple to make, rich in nutrition and it's so tasty. These are no cook ladoos and you can make them in five minutes if you have all the ingredients ready.

Coconut is added in these ladoos to make it more interesting in taste and I basically don't like more coconut in my laddos. Coconut lovers can add more and  Adding flattened rice to this ladoo is totally up to you. You could feel slight taste difference in ladoos which are made with and without flattened rice. You can try both ways and see which one suits for your taste buds. I generally like both the ladoos and here I have used freshly crushed cardamom pods for good flavor but you can also use cardamom powder.

Ingredients

3/4 cup grated Coconut
1 to 1 & 1/2 cup Sugar
2 cups Roasted gram / Pottu kadalai
1/2 cup Flattened rice
2 pods Cardamom (freshly crushed)
1/4 cup Ghee / Clarified butter
2 to 3 tbsp. milk (optional)

Instructions

In a bowl, add grated coconut and sugar. Mix well and press it with spatula.
Let it sit for sometime till it releases moisture.
In a mixer jar, add roasted gram dal and flattened rice. Blend well.
Add it in the bowl with coconut and sugar. Mix well.
Add  2 freshly crushed cardamom and ghee.
Mix well with hands and make ladoos.

Roasted gram ladoos

In a bowl add grated coconut and sugar.

Mix well.

Gently press it with spatula and let it sit for some time.

In a blender jar, add roasted gram dal.

Now add in flattened rice. Adding flattened rice is completely optional.

Blend gram dal and flattened rice well. Finely or coarsely as per your wish.

After 20 to 30 minutes, you'll see some moisture in sugar and coconut mixture. Sugar need to be slightly melted and if you don't want sugar crystals in your ladoos you can even add powdered sugar.

Now add in the blended mixture.

Mix everything well with a spatula.

Add in the crushed cardamom and ghee.

Mix everything well.

Start shaping ladoos with hands. Hot ghee will help in binding ladoos and if it is not enough you can add in some milk.

Tasty roasted gram ladoos are ready to serve!
